Europe Trip #4: Cornwall/ The Eden Project

If you are ever in Cornwall in England, an absolutely must-see is the fantastic Eden Project.

The Eden Project is an old quarry that has been transformed into an ecological masterpiece. The main attractions are two giant structures that look like large hemispheres, but are in fact a couple of climate controlled green houses. The first Biome [the big blob on the left in the photos] is the Rainforest biome, and the one in the centre is the Mediterranean biome. The Rainforest biome is kept at a consistent 30-something degrees [celsius] and extremely humid. As the doors opened, my glasses steamed up you can imagine what trouble I had with the camera lens!!

The Mediterranean biome was obviously a lot drier, and cooler. Apart from these two features, there were other buildings including a interactive area [mainly for kids] to build shelters and the like, and an educational area - my favourite was the over-engineered nut-cracker [itś a huge mechancal thing in one of the pictures!].

My only advice would be to ensure that you have GPS navigation to get there, and forget the Elvis car ride - a waste of money - they also took a poke at New Zealand apples. Apart from that, plenty to keep you occupied for a few hours.
